[Update] One person confirmed dead in building collapses in Ogun

One of the plazas being built at Itoku Market Abeokuta by the Ogun State Government collapsed early this morning.

Four of the workers had so far been retrieved by rescue workers from under the rubble of the four-storey building.

The workers sustained serious injuries and had been rushed to the hospital, even as rescue operations continue.



Meanwhile, The Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has visited the scene of the four storey building shopping mall which collapsed at Itokun Abeokuta in Ogun state this morning. According to a statement by the governor, 16 workers were on site when the incident happened and they have all been accounted for.

One person has been confirmed dead while five others were injured in the building collapse involving one of the plazas being built at Itoku Market, Abeokuta by the Ogun State Government.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Otunba Adedayo Adeneye, said 16 construction workers were at the site.

“At the moment, records from the site engineers indicate that there were 16 workers on site at the time of the unfortunate incident and they have all been accounted for,” Adeneye said.

“Eight of them were rescued unhurt, five who sustained different degrees of injuries are presently receiving treatment at the State hospital Ijaiye, Abeokuta, one is critically injured, while two have been discharged.”

The deceased was one of the labourers whose name was given as Noimat Sikiru, who was a nursing mother.
