SEE Youngest Olympic Medallists

1. Chinese diver Ren Qian became the youngest medallist at Rio 2016 by winning gold - aged 15 years and 180 days - in the 10m platform.

But, despite her remarkable achievement, Ren is already too old to rewrite the record books.

2. Dimitrios Loundras (Greece) - won gymnastics bronze in 1896, aged 10 years and 218 days

Bolt wins third Olympic 200m title

Usain Bolt won the men's 200m to claim his second Rio 2016 gold, his eighth at an Olympics, and keep alive his hopes of an unprecedented 'treble treble'.

The Jamaican ran 19.78 seconds to come home ahead of Canada's Andre de Grasse and France's Christophe Lemaitre.

Bolt, 29, has already won the 100m in Rio and will run in the 4x100m relay final on Saturday

Bolt is aiming to match his achievement of claiming gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay at both Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

The Jamaican, who said in February he would retire after the 2017 World Championships, has won all eight Olympic finals in which he has appeared.

"The fact I came here and executed what I wanted to is a brilliant feeling," he told BBC Sport.

"I wasn't happy with the time when I crossed the line but I'm excited I got the gold medal - that's the key thing."

Only US sprinter and long jumper Carl Lewis and Finnish long-distance runner Paavo Nurmi have won more Olympic gold medals in athletics.

The three time 200m gold medalist further put himself alongside boxing legend Ali and football greatest

"What else can I do to prove I am the greatest? I'm trying to be one of the greatest, to be among Ali and Pele," added Bolt.

"I have made the sport exciting, I have made people want to see the sport. I have put the sport on a different level."

Bolt believed he could break his world record of 19.19 and even go under 19 seconds in Rio's Olympic Stadium.

So the slow time - by his standards - left the Jamaican gesticulating angrily as he crossed the line more than two tenths of a second ahead of De Grasse.

But Bolt quickly broke into a beaming smile, celebrating with a trademark 'Lightning Bolt' as thousands of fans chanted his name.

Olympics: Funke Oshonaike is Team Nigeria’s Flag Bearer

Experienced and elegant Table Tennis star, Olufunke Oshonaike, will lead out Team Nigeria at the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics, at the Maracana Stadium on Friday, August 5.

The graceful and stylish ping ponger, who is competing in her sixth Olympics, is also the assistant Team Captain to Mikel Obi who at the weekend was also named captain of the football team, thereby making him a double captain to the Games.

Funke Oshonaike, no doubt, would treasure to be the flag bearer as marching with her fellow athletes in an opening ceremony is considered by many athletes as the pinnacle of their Olympic journey.

Table Tennis is indeed honoured with yet another player, Segun Toriola whose incredible willpower and perseverance sees him as the Nigerian with seven appearances at the Olympics.

The opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics would also see an athlete take the Olympic Oath during the Opening Ceremony, “In the name of all the competitors”.

Paul Le Guen turns down Nigeria job

The Nigeria Football Federation says former Paris Saint-Germain manager Paul Le Guen has turned down a contract to become the new national team coach.

The NFF had announced the Frenchman's appointment on Monday pending the finalization of his contract. On Tuesday, however, the NFF confirmed that Le Guen objected to having targets written into the deal and did not want to live in Nigeria.

In a statement, NFF official Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande said: "There is absolutely no issue with Le Guen saying he is not coming. Several highly-qualified persons would be happy to be named manager of the senior national team of Nigeria."

Nigeria has been looking for a new coach since Sunday Oliseh quit in February.

Le Guen has coached Oman and Cameroon since ending a two-year spell at PSG in 2009.

Rooney under pressure as Manchester United bring in big names

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits his place in the side is under pressure following the arrival of new star names, but says it goes with the territory at Old Trafford.

Defender Eric Bailly, midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic have all arrived at Old Trafford this summer - with Paul Pogba also a known transfer target - and Rooney accepts he will need to be at his best to stay in Jose Mourinho's plans.

Rooney, who is in Shanghai with the squad for their pre-season China tour, said: "You always feel you have to prove yourself every season, because it's a dream to play for them. I think you always feel pressure when you play for Manchester United.

Rooney knows he will have to perform for Mourinho to keep his place in the team

"It's one of the biggest - if not the biggest - clubs in the world and it's been a pleasure and a privilege to play for them for so long.

"The appointment of Jose Mourinho is a big appointment for us and we're all excited by it.

"We've made some fantastic signings, too. Hopefully, we can have a good start to the season and be successful by the end of it."

Rooney, who has only just begun pre-season training following his involvement with England at Euro 2016, is counting on Mourinho maintaining his track record of leading clubs to immediate success.

Mourinho addresses his squad during training in Shanghai

Since the retirement in 2013 of Sir Alex Ferguson, who led the club to more than 30 trophies during his 26-year spell, United have managed to add just one to their haul - the FA Cup last season - and in the process sacked two managers.

"I've only had one day (training with Mourinho) since we came out, but it was a very good day," said the 30-year-old.

"But I think you only have to look at the teams he's had before, and the success he's had with them, and we're hoping he can bring that to us. I'm excited for it. It's a big season for us."

Portugal beat wales to reach euro 2016 final

The great Wales adventure at Euro 2016 came to a disappointing end as they were beaten in the semi-final by Portugal in Lyon.

Chris Coleman's side entered the biggest game in Welsh football history at their first major tournament since 1958 carried by a wave of emotion and optimism after their 3-1 win against Belgium in the quarter-final.

The big threat was always going to be Cristiano Ronaldo - and so it proved as his magnificent header broke the deadlock after 50 minutes and his shot was redirected in by former Manchester United team-mate Nani three minutes later.

Wales sorely missed the energy and authority of suspended Aaron Ramsey in midfield and with Ronaldo overshadowing his Real Madrid team-mate Bale in this semi-final's crucial battle, a journey that has made a country proud reached its conclusion.

Portugal will now face hosts France or Germany in the Stade de France final on Sunday.

Murray Defeats Tsonga To Qualify For Wimbledon Semi-Final

Andy Murray has qualified for the semi-final of Wimbledon after defeating Jo-Wilfred Tsonga.

Murray defeated Tsonga in a five set thriller 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-1.

Murray, who became the first Briton to win the title in 2013 since 1936, will face Thomas Berdych in the next round of the competition.

Berdych, the 2010 runner-up, beat France’s Lucas Pouille 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 6-2 to set up a 15th meeting with Murray.

Messi To Appeal 21-Month Jail Sentence

Barcelona football star, Lionel Messi, and his father will appeal against a Spanish court decision to sentence them each to 21 months in jail for tax fraud, the player’s lawyers say.

Argentine Messi, aged 29, was also fined €2m euros (£1.7m; $2.2m) by the court in Barcelona.

In addition to the prison term, Messi’s father, Jorge, was fined €1.5m for defrauding Spain of €4.1m in 2007-09.

However, neither man is expected to serve time in jail.

Under the Spanish legal system, prison terms of under two years can be served under probation.

The pair also face millions of euros in fines for using tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights.

“The sentence is not correct and we are confident the appeal will show the defence was right,” Messi’s lawyers said in a statement several hours after the guilty verdict was delivered.

The lawyers said that “there is a good chance that the appeal will succeed”, adding that Messi had always acted in good faith.

The sentence can be appealed against via the Spanish supreme court.

The footballer and his father were found guilty of three counts of tax fraud.

As well as the jail terms, Messi and Jorge were also fined.

They made a voluntary €5m “corrective payment”, equal to the alleged unpaid tax plus interest, in August 2013.

Manchester United sign Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United have signed Armenia midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan from German club Borussia Dortmund.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jose Mourinho

The 27-year-old joins United for an undisclosed fee on a four-year deal, with the option of a further year.

The Armenia captain was the 2015-16 Bundesliga player of the season and scored 23 goals in all competitions.

"Henrikh is a real team player with great skill, vision and also has a good eye for goal," manager Jose Mourinho told United's official website.

"I am delighted he has chosen to sign for United.

"I believe he will make an impact on the team very quickly as his style of play is suited to the Premier League.

"We are all looking forward to working with him."

Mkhitaryan said he is "very proud" to sign for Manchester United, adding: "This move is a dream come true for me.

"I am excited to play for a club with such an illustrious history and hope to be part of it for a long time.

"I thank the trust the club and Jose Mourinho have put in me.

"Finally, I believe playing for such a great club honours my father's memory, and the inspiration and drive he gave to me when I was young."

Mkhitaryan made 140 appearances and scored 41 goals for Dortmund after joining them for £23.5m in 2013.

He is the son of one of Armenia's most famous footballers, Hamlet Mkhitaryan, and won the first of his 59 caps for his country a week before his 18th birthday.

Pistorius Gets Six Years Jail Term For Girlfriend’s Murder

South African Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to six years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.

He was initially given a five-year term for manslaughter, but was found guilty of murder on appeal last December.

He was taken immediately to jail. Both the prosecution and defence can appeal, but his lawyers say they will not.

Pistorius, 29, shot Reeva Steenkamp four times through a locked toilet door in February 2013.

He admitted shooting her, but said he had mistaken Ms Steenkamp for an intruder and acted out of fear.

Judge Thokozile Masipa said mitigating circumstances, such as rehabilitation and remorse, outweighed aggravating factors, such as his failure to fire a warning shot, for deviating from the prescribed 15-year sentence.

Lionel Messi handed jail term in Spain for tax fraud

Argentina and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud.

They also face millions of euros in fines for using tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights.

However, neither man is expected to serve time in jail.
Under the Spanish system, prison terms of under two years can be served under probation.

Jose Mourinho: I have a job everyone want

Jose Mourinho says he is ready for the task of rebuilding Manchester United, insisting: "I am where I want to be."

The new United manager added: "I think it is a job everyone wants and not many have a chance to have and I have it."

Former Chelsea boss Mourinho succeeds Dutchman Louis van Gaal, who was sacked after United's FA Cup success in May.

The Portuguese said he was "frustrated" United are not in the Champions League next season but insisted he was at Old Trafford to win trophies.

United, the 20-time English champions, finished fifth in the Premier League last season, 15 points adrift of shock champions Leicester City.

United won the FA Cup, but the campaign was generally viewed as another disappointment, prompting the sacking of Van Gaal in May.

"It would be quite pragmatic to say let's work and let's try to be back to the Champions League, be back to the top four," said Mourinho.

"I am not good on that and I didn't want to be good on that. I am more aggressive. We want to win.

"For many years, success was just routine and in this moment the last three years are to forget. I want the players to forget. I don't want the players to think we have to do better and finish fourth. Finishing fourth is not the aim.

"I want everything. I want to win matches, I want to play well, I don't want to concede goals. I want the fans to be behind us.

"Of course, we're not going to get everything, but we want to."

Asked if he had a point to prove after his second stint at Chelsea ended in the sack, Mourinho responded: "There are some managers who haven't won titles for 10 years. Some of them never. The last time I won was a year ago."

Mourinho, who led the Blues to the Premier League title in 2015, added: "If I have something to prove, imagine the others. That's my feeling.

"I feel that I have to prove not to the others but to myself. I would never be able to work without success. That is my nature."

Williams sisters through to semi-finals of Wimbledon

Five-time champion Venus Williams reached the Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time since 2009 with victory over Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova.

Eighth seed Williams - at 36 the oldest Grand Slam semi-finalist for 22 years - beat unseeded Shvedova 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

An all-Williams final remains possible after top seed Serena beat Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4 6-4.

In Thursday's semis, Serena will play Russia's Elena Vesnina and Venus will take on Germany's Angelique Kerber.

"We don't really talk too much about it but we are playing doubles later, so we are just happy to be in the semi-finals," Serena told BBC Sport.

Asked about a potential final meeting, she added: "It will be great. Venus is such a tough opponent I want her to win so bad - not in the final if I am there, but if I'm not, I do."

Kerber, the fourth seed, beat Romanian fifth seed Simona Halep 7-5 7-6 (7-2) in the opening match on Centre Court.

Unseeded Russian Vesnina thrashed Slovakian 19th seed Cibulkova 6-2 6-2 in the remaining quarter-final on court one.

France trash Iceland to book Germany showdown

Olivier Giroud scored two goals and set up another as the Euro 2016 hosts France thrashed Iceland 5-2 on Sunday to set up a semi-final clash against world champions Germany.

Giroud fired France ahead after just 12 minutes at a rain-drenched Stade de France with Paul Pogba then heading in his first goal of the tournament to double the hosts’ lead.

Dimitri Payet struck two minutes before half-time to put France in complete control and Antoine Griezmann raced clear to add a fourth to round out France’s first-half blitz.

Iceland, who beat England 2-1 to reach the last eight, put on another never-say-die performance. Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Birkir Bjarnason grabbed second-half consolation goals either side of Giroud’s second but Iceland were overpowerd by France’s domination.

Didier Deschamps’ men will take on Germany in Marseille on Thursday for a place in the final, while Iceland will return home as heroes after a remarkable run in their first appearance at a major tournament.

“Germany are the best team, there is no doubt about that, even if Italy gave them a few scares. But we are there in the final four,” said Deschamps.

Iceland, who had never beaten France in 11 attempts, kept faith with the side that shocked England, making European Championship history as the first team to name an unchanged line-up for their first five matches

Samuel Umtiti became the first French outfield player to make his international debut during a major finals since 1966 as the Barcelona-bound defender replaced the suspended Adil Rami.

Moussa Sissoko filled in for N’Golo Kante, who was also serving a one-match ban, on the right side of midfield as Deschamps stuck with the 4-2-3-1 that helped France fight back to beat the Republic of Ireland in the last 16.

Quick start

Sluggish starts had been a hallmark of France matches in the tournament, but the hosts quickly seized control at the Stade de France with Hannes Halldorsson smothering Payet’s early effort at the second attempt.

It took less than a quarter hour for France to make the breakthrough though. Giroud raced onto Blaise Matuidi’s floated ball over the defence and drilled through the legs of Halldorsson.

Iceland, who fought back in style against England after conceding an early opener in their last 16 tie, could not replicate a similar response and fell further behind on 20 minutes.

Antoine Griezmann’s right-wing corner found a leaping Pogba who towered above Jon Dadi Bodvarsson to power in his first goal of the European Championship.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson skied over after Aron Gunnarsson’s long throw caused trouble inside the French penalty area, but Les Bleus had wrapped up their place in the last four by half-time.

After Giroud knocked down a looping cross to Griezmann, the Atletico Madrid striker teed up Payet whose low drive whistled into the far corner two minutes before the break.

Griezmann tucked away France’s fourth on the stroke of the interval, running onto Giroud’s pass and lifting a deft chip over Halldorsson to move clear in the race for the Golden Boot with his fourth goal.

Sigthorsson, who netted Iceland’s winner against England, scored for the second game running after poking in Gylfi Sigurdsson’s cross on 56 minutes.

But France replied with Giroud beating Halldorsson to a Payet free-kick, and the Arsenal striker was withdrawn immediately having been booked earlier in the competition.

Iceland were rewarded for their perseverence though as they grabbed a second goal when Bjarnason headed in Ari Skulason’s cross on 84 minutes.

Leicester City to sign Ahmed Musa

Premier League champions Leicester City are to sign Nigerian international attacking midfielder Ahmed Musa from Russian champions CSKA Moscow for $21 million (18.8 million euros).

Separately, Leicester announced earlier Sunday they had signed former France Under-21 midfielder Nampalys Mendy from Nice on a four-year deal, as they bolster their squad for a tilt at the Champions League.

The 23-year-old Musa, who scored a brace for Nigeria in a 3-2 defeat against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup finals, is to sign a five-year deal.

“He’ll be leaving Tuesday,” CSKA coach Leonid Slutsky told Russian media of the player, who joined CSKA in 2012 and has scored 53 goals in 161 games.

“And if you look at the way things are done over there you’ll see he is a player just made for English football,” Slutsky said.

Leicester’s first signing since winning the English Premier League was Sporting Gijon defender Luis Hernandez on a free transfer.

Germany Beat Italy In Euro 2016 Quarter Final

Germany had to endure a long stretch of penalties as they defeated Italy 6-5 in the third quarter final match of the Euro 2016 championship.

The game had ended 1-1 after 120 minutes of football.

Mesut Ozil broke the deadlock in the second half but the Germans’ lead lasted few minutes as Jerome Boateng’s handball in the box gave Italy a penalty which was well converted by Leonardo Bonucci.

The quality of their penalties were, however, not particularly good.

Thomas Mueller, Mesut Oezil and Bastian Schweinsteiger all missed for Germany while Simone Zaza, Graziano Pelle, Leonardo Bonucci and Matteo Darmian missed for Italy.

Germany goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, who was voted Man of the Match, said; “I have never experienced a shoot-out like this. I think most of the Italians just aimed into the middle.

“The 1-1 score we conceded during regular time was a bit unlucky. But I believe we were the better side and are deservedly through to the semi-finals.”

The total of 18 penalties ties the record for most penalties taken in a Euro penalty shootout.

The record was set in 1980 when Italy also lost 8-9 to Czechoslovakia in the 3rd place play-off.

World number one Novak Djokovic out of Wimbledon 2016

World number one, Novak Djokovic, has been dumped out of the 2016 Wimbledon championships by Sam Querrey.

The defending champion was beaten 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 by his American opponent in their third round clash as his bid for a calendar grand slam ended on court one.

Querrey’s win ends Djokovic’s streak of 30 consecutive match wins at majors and the loss marks his earliest exit since the 2009 French Open.

The 28-year-old American said after the game, “It’s incredible, especially to do it here at Wimbledon.

“I’m so ecstatic, so happy. I played the break points well and every time he had a break point I was able to come up with a big serve.

“He came out and got the first four games, fortunately for me we had another rain delay and I got to regroup. I’m just taking it one round at a time, I’m not even sure who I’m playing next.”

Djokovic admitted that his opponent was “playing on a very high level and he deserved to win”, although he hinted at being not 100% fit.

Southampton appoint Frenchman Claude Puel as manager on three-year deal

Southampton have appointed former Nice boss Claude Puel as their new manager.

The 54-year-old Frenchman, who left the Ligue 1 club in May after four years in charge, has signed a three-year contract with Saints.

He replaces Ronald Koeman, who took over at Everton on 16 June.

Saints executive director of football Les Reed described the search for a new manager as "diligent and meticulous" and that the "process eliminated a number of excellent candidates".

Southampton considered ex-Roma boss Rudi Garcia, while a move for former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini was not pursued after initial talks.

"Claude clearly came out on top of a very impressive shortlist," added Reed.

He added that the Puel would "meet our needs as a club" while "taking account of our culture, vision and values".

Eric Black, Aston Villa's caretaker manager last season following Remi Garde's sacking, joins Puel as assistant manager with former Boulogne coach Pascal Plancque as assistant first-team coach.

Ibrahimovic to complete Man united deal this week

Zlatan Ibrahimovic should complete his long-anticipated move to Manchester United by the end of the week.

The Swedish striker, 34, is a free agent after leaving Paris St-Germain and is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Old Trafford club.

He will become the second signing for United boss Jose Mourinho, who replaced Louis van Gaal as manager in May.

Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly, 22, has already completed a £30m move to United from Spanish side Villarreal.

United have also made an improved offer for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, 27, and are now waiting for his German club, Borussia Dortmund, to make a decision on the Armenian playmaker's future.

Ibrahimovic removed the final barrier to his switch to the Premier League when he said he did not wish to be considered for Olympic duty at the 2016 Games in Rio following Sweden's exit from Euro 2016.

It will be his first spell in England after winning titles in four countries.

Although the Swede repeatedly refused to confirm his plans during the Euros, Old Trafford was widely assumed to be the next destination in a career that has seen him win league championships in 13 of the last 15 seasons.

Ibrahimovic was top scorer in France's Ligue 1 last term with 38 goals but did not score as Sweden went out of Euro 2016 at the group stage
